چکیده

Here we define two cases with a diffuse soft tissue uptake of I-131 in neck and mediastinum on post ablation scan. A diffuse uptake of I-131 in the soft tissue is very rare. In this case report we review the literature and discuss the mechanism of the uptake.

Normal Gallbladder Visualization during Post-Ablative Iodine-131 Scan of Thyroid Cancer

Whole body iodine-131 scan is a well-established imaging method for the detection of metastatic or residual tumor sites in patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer. Many false-positive iodine-131 scan findings mimicking metastatic thyroid cancer have long been reported. The authors describe a false positive uptake in normal gallbladder on post-ablative iodine-131 scan in a patient with ...

Gallbladder Visualization on I-131 Post-Ablative Whole Body Imaging Mimicking Hepatic Metastases

A 52-year-old woman with follicular thyroid carcinoma presented for ablative radioiodide and whole body I-131 imaging following subtotal thyroidectomy. An abnormal focus of increased activity was present in the region of the gallbladder fossa, persistent on delayed imaging. Subsequent CT revealed no hepatic metastases. Contemporaneously, the patient described right upper quadrant abdominal pain...

Unexpected Uptake by the Gallbladder in Post-Ablative I-131 Scan

A 47-year-old woman was diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinoma. I-131 ablation therapy was applied following total thyroidectomy, and the whole-body scan revealed a focus of increased uptake in the right upper quadrant. Lateral view images of the uptake site showed that the focus was located near the right liver lobe. The patient was referred to radiology department for correlative abdominal ...

Evaluation of response to I-131 ablative therapy in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma: A five year retrospective study [Persian]

Differentiated thyroid carcinomas usually show good uptake and response to I-131 ablative treatment. In this study, 90 patients following near total thyroidectomy who were referred to our institute for I-131 therapy are retrospectively studied. The patients are divided in two groups. Group 1 revealed complete ablation after one dose of I-131. Group 2 needed more than one dose of I-131 for...

Comparison of outcomes after (123)I versus (131)I pre-ablation imaging before radioiodine ablation in differentiated thyroid carcinoma.

UNLABELLED Detection of residual tissue after thyroidectomy for papillary or follicular thyroid carcinoma may be performed using diagnostic imaging with either (123)I or (131)I. The former is often preferred to avoid "stunning"-defined as a reduction in uptake of the therapeutic dose of (131)I caused by some form of cell damage from the diagnostic dosage of the radionuclide. Stunning could pote...
